P.S. 245, Magnet School of Arts and Science is one of Brooklyn's best kept secrets. Located at 249 East 17th Street in Flatbush, we are a small elementary school serving grades Pre-K through grade 5.
Through the process of project based learning each student is able to express themselves and contribute. Our students learn about the world and are able to express these new understandings through the arts, theatre, dance and music.
We are a STEAM school (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and we use these disciplines to develop each students' innate creative abilities by encouraging self-expression and natural curiosity.

PS 245 Magnet School of Arts and Science is committed to providing our students with a rigorous education with an emphasis on the Arts and Science through engaging learning experiences. Our goal is to empower each student to grow intellectually and socially.
Instructional Focus
Our school prides itself on setting high standards for all of our students. As a result, students participate daily in hands-on activities and discussions to deepen their knowledge in all content areas. To ensure this, we have partnered with the Columbia's Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project. The students are exposed to various genres of literature and informational text. Students are taught to think deeply and critically about the impact of the characters, events, plot and the author's craft. Students are asked to envision, interpret and synthesize information in order to form valid ideas and arguments about and around a text. This enables students to defend their ideas by citing text evidence that supports their arguments We continue to use the Department of Education's recommended Envisions 2.0 Program which we supplement with resources from EngageNY. We use "Amplify" as our Science curriculum as adopted by the NYCDOE along with supplemental resources.
