Programs at PS 245
Our school prides itself on setting high standards for all of our students. As a result, students participate daily in hands-on activities and discussions to deepen their knowledge in all content areas. To ensure this, we have partnered with the Columbia's Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project. The students are exposed to various genres of literature and informational text. Students are taught to think deeply and critically about the impact of the characters, events, plot and the author's craft. Students are asked to envision, interpret and synthesize information in order to form valid ideas and arguments about and around a text. This enables students to defend their ideas by citing text evidence that supports their arguments. We continue to use the Department of Education's recommended Envisions 2.0 Program which we supplement with resources from EngageNY. We use "Amplify" as our Science curriculum as adopted by the NYCDOE along with supplemental resources.
