What is Physical Education?

Physical Education is a standards based, curriculum driven subject that involves cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness.


The Benefits of Physical Education

Physical education provides several benefits to students:

  • Learning the skills and concepts necessary to be a lifelong learner of movement and exercise.

  • Develop teamwork and responsibility

  • Learn about the parts and functions of the human body

  • Discover different sport based skills and concepts


Physical Education Curriculum

Here at P.S. 245 the Physical Education curriculum takes a skill based approach towards teaching and learning the subject of Physical Education.

Here are the skills we cover:

  • Locomotor Skills (ex. Skip, Jog, Gallop)

  • Gross and Fine Motor Skills

  • Movement Concepts (ex. Directions, Pathways, Levels)

  • Coordination and Balance

  • Dance and Rhythm

  • Rolling

  • Catching

  • Throwing

  • Kicking

  • Striking with Long and Short Implements

  • Sport Specific Skills: Soccer, Basketball, Team Handball, Hockey

  • And most importantly the concept and skills involved in FITNESS!
