During the formative years, ages 0-8, a child  learns more quickly than at any other time in life. These are the years when a child experiences rapid cognitive (intellectual), social, emotional and physical development.  Our Pre K program encompasses all of these areas. We work with our students to build solid foundations of self esteem and confidence. Our students learn responsibility and good social habits. They learn how to be friendly, kind and how to cooperate with their peers and others.  These communication skills and moral virtues lead to their growing maturity and prepare them to go on to Kindergarten.

Our academics include English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science (STEM), and Social Studies.  PS 245’s teachers adhere to the New York City Department of Education’s Thematic Units of Study, as well as the New Generation Learning standards.

Research shows that children do a majority of their learning during playtime and from their peers.

At PS 245  the children spend time and play together in centers. Our centers include construction/blocks, dramatic play, art, science/discovery, toys and games, library, computer/technology, writing, and music/dance/movement.

PS 245 is a school where your 4 year old’s creativity can thrive in an environment that encourages curiosity and exploration. You will have the confidence that they are in a safe and healthy environment (strictly based on CDC guidelines) while they are in school.

Our Literacy curriculum’s focus is to develop our students’ listening, thinking and speaking abilities; as well as teach the foundational skills of reading and writing. In mathematics, our goal is that our students recognize relationships among numbers, numerals and quantities. In Science, we observe and explore living things and our environment using “hands on” investigations. In Social Studies, we study people in relation to each other and to their world . For our socio-emotional component, we encourage the children to embrace their uniqueness along with the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

Our physical education program develops fine and gross motor control for our students as they gain strength, control and coordination . In music class, the students sing, dance and play instruments.  We work with each individual child and ensure that their individual needs are being met.

At P.S. 245 we provide the fun, the excitement and the guidance to prepare your child for an easy and exciting transition to Kindergarten.
